Dear Friends and Members of our Eglwys y Cymry Community,

As we approach the holidays and holy days and our final service of 2017 on December 10th, we are marking the end of another year of community and fellowship at Eglwys y Cymru Efrog Newydd.  We have much to be thankful for this year, despite the oftentimes unsettling political climate and crazy news that makes us want to turn off our TVs.

We are very thankful for our new pastor and friend (and discerning welsh cake judge) Rev. Matthew Harrington and have enjoyed his thought provoking sermons, replete with rugby references and humorous anecdotes that remind us of home.

We are thankful for our hugely popular pre-service Welsh classes, Siarad Gymraeg gyda Simon, which thanks to Simon Owen-Williams have our culturally diverse congregation mastering the double consonants and starting to chat like real South Walians.  Thanks also to Shruti Kulkarni for ably subbing.  For those of you who are not aware, Simon’s lessons are recorded and can be played back through the following link - just click here - so there’s no excuse for not practicing!

Our programming for next year is in place with our traditional Under Milk Wood reading, Gwyl Dewi celebration, Cymanfa Ganu, and our second Annual Great Welsh Cake Bake-off Contest and we are looking for other opportunities to have fun and to support the church. We, the church Council, are open to your ideas and an Eisteddfod has already been suggested.  We are appreciative of our friends at New York Welsh www.newyorkwelsh.com with whom we shared our summer picnic and who are doing a great job of growing the community and we look forward to collaborating with them again next year.

As to our Yearly Pledge campaign, your generosity allows us to continue our programs and events which help knit us together as a group and keep our unique heritage, culture and beautiful language strong.  You can also donate to the Poinsettia Fund to cover the costs of decorating the sanctuary for our Christmas worship and to remember loved ones. And, this year we are offering the option to pay either/both by credit card - just click for the link here. Please give as generously as you are able.

Finally, we invite you all to raise a glass of cheer at our Te Bach/Christmas Party and singalong directly after the service next month.  You are very welcome to bring festive treats for the occasion.

Thank you for your support, your friendship and your commitment to the Welsh Congregation in New York City.

Pob bendith i chi i gyd.
